Vision:

Know

Philippians 3:10 – That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

We desire everyone to know the Lord Jesus Christ in a personal way and become a believer and child of God for eternity.

Grow

Ephesians 4:15 – But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

Once a person becomes a believer, the next step is to start growing in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Go

Mark 16:15 – And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Believers are like pitchers: when they have something inside, it’s time to pour out for others. Whether it’s across the world or to the person next door, we should share the love and life of Christ Jesus with others.

Meet Jesus

Jesus said that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. If you need the Way out of your trouble — it’s Him. If you are looking for answers — He is the Truth. If you would like to have the real Life — He is it!

How do you get to a place where Jesus can help you? It’s easy… ask Him.

People talk to their friends and family members because they believe they are real and can hear them. It’s the same with Jesus. Talk to Him. Ask for His help. He is as real as your closest friend.

Who is Jesus?

So, Who is Jesus? Jesus is the Son of God. He is also the Son of Man (that is, Jesus is also human). Jesus is not half God and half man. He is all God and all man. You might say He is 200%.

He was born just like any other human on this earth, except that His real Father is God. His body was formed miraculously in His mother’s womb with no human father. God’s mighty power, and Jesus’ mother choosing to believe, made it possible for her to become pregnant with the Son of God. While He grew up, Jesus lived with His mother, Mary, and her husband, Joseph. Later, when Jesus was about 30 years old, God spoke from Heaven and said that Jesus was His Son and that He loves Him.

Why did Jesus have to die?

Jesus only came to earth because of us. God wanted us to be part of His family. But God is perfect, and we were not. People make mistakes … but more than that, everyone, at some time in life, has chosen to do something that he or she knew was wrong. All it takes is one time, and perfection is gone. We call that “sin”. Sin is not smoking or cursing. Sin is choosing to do the wrong thing when you know inside what the right thing to do is. We all have done that — probably many more times than just once. In order for us to join God’s family, He had to get rid of our sins. It wouldn’t have been right to pretend they didn’t exist, so God made a way that someone could be punished for doing wrong instead of us. That Way is Jesus.

Jesus never sinned, so He didn’t need to be punished to make things right for Himself. You may have heard of the term “scape goat” — someone who takes the blame for someone else’s wrong doing. That’s exactly what Jesus did. He never did anything wrong, but was punished by being put to death like a criminal. The Bible says that God put all of our sins on Jesus and declared that they were paid for when He was punished. That means we are free!

The good news is that God brought Jesus back to life again. He didn’t stay dead. God brought Jesus back to life. He got His Son back again. Now He’s just waiting for you to join His family too!

How can I know I’ll go to Heaven?

In order to get on the right path with God, the Bible tells us that we only have to do two things: believe and speak. We don’t have to do a certain number of good deeds. We don’t have to stop all of our bad habits. All we have to do is these two things: 1) We have to believe that God raised Jesus from the dead, and 2) we have to say that we choose Jesus as our Lord … that means we say that Jesus is the One we will listen to.

Here is a prayer that you can pray right now to invite Jesus into your life and get on the road to Heaven:

Dear God in Heaven, I believe Jesus died for my sin, was buried, and You raised Him to life again. I believe Jesus is alive. I’m going to follow Him. Jesus is my Lord. Thank You for making me part of Your family. Thank you for making me able to go to Heaven.

Beliefs

What Do We Believe?

The Bible is the Word of God, given by inspiration of God.  God’s Word is infallible and the final authority on every subject. (2 Timothy 3:16)

God is Love.  God loves you no matter who you are or what you’ve done. (John 3:16 & 17)

Everyone has sinned, and not able to earn salvation on his or her own. (Romans 3:23)

Jesus is God’s Son, born of a virgin, sent to save the world. (Hebrews 1:5; Isaiah 7:14; John 3:17)

God provided redemption from sin by the blood of Jesus.  Jesus died for our sins and rose again to life. (Ephesians 1:7; 1 Corinthians 15:3 & 4)

Salvation is a free gift, only obtained by Jesus and His blood.  Salvation doesn’t come by our works. (Ephesian 2:8 & 9)

Baptism means immersion.  Baptism in water shows publicly what Jesus did inwardly – being buried with Christ and raised together with Him. (Romans 6:3 & 4)

We can be baptized with the Holy Spirit and speak in other tongues just as the first disciples did. (Matthew 3:11; Acts 2)

God is a Trinity.  God is three separate Persons : Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  However, all three are One in will and purpose. (Luke 3:21-22; John 10:30)

God still does miracles today because He never changes. (Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8)

Healing was purchased through the body and blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and can be obtained today. (1 Peter 2:24)

God desires for us to prosper and be in health. (3 John 2)

God is good and does good. (Psalm 119:68)

Jesus physically went to Heaven and will return again. (Acts 1:11)

Venice shall be saved. (Psalm 37:4)

 Puppet Ministry

Puppet Ministry

The Puppet Ministry at Abounding Grace Fellowship uses puppets to bring the love of Jesus Christ to groups in the community through encouraging songs and skits.

We have had the privilege of ministering multiple times through puppets to people with special needs in both Nokomis and Sarasota. We have also performed at the Farmers Market and Gazebo in Venice.

Till the Ground

Till the Ground

Operation Till the Ground is an outreach to help prepare people to receive the Good News of Jesus Christ.

I grew up on a farm — or at least we called it a farm — well, it used to be a farm.

Specifically, it used to be a dairy farm. By the time I came around, the cows were gone, we rented out the fields, and we just planted a huge garden. Now the great thing about a dairy farm is that wherever you plant seeds or garden plants of any type, they grow. I’d hear about people needing fertilizer and working hard on their gardens and I’d think, “Why are they doing that?”

Later in life, I tried growing my own garden in the city, in a much drier climate, in a yard where they removed most of the topsoil — it was pathetic. Finally, I abandoned the puny plants to the bugs and went back to the grocery store for my veggies. (I can blame the bad city soil, but I probably would have gotten some decent fruit if I would have tended to my garden. I was just used to being a lazy gardener. Bad soil and a drier climate means you have to do things differently — like use fertilizer and water it frequently!)

The really neat thing about a seed is, if you can get it into the ground, and keep it there long enough, it will grow. Even in the worst soil, the seed tried to grow. The Bible tells us that “God gives the increase.” We don’t make the seed grow. We just plant the seed.

Jesus told a story about a farmer planting seed. Some seed fell on hard ground and never got into the soil. That seed was eaten by the birds. It was the only seed that didn’t grow. Seed grew in every other type of ground — of course, only seed that was in the good ground, free from rocks and weeds, produced a good crop. Here’s something to think about… the hard ground Jesus described was still dirt. They didn’t have concrete or asphalt roadways next to their farms back then. The hard ground was simply ground that had been walked on so much that it was packed down. The seed would have even grown in that ground if someone would have softened it up first so the seed could get in.

What does all this have to do with Operation Till The Ground? If we can soften up the ground, the seed we plant will grow. I believe the Lord has shown us a way to reach a group of people with the Good News of Jesus Christ. There are a number of people in the area who could use some extra money for food or bus tickets to get to work. As a church, we are purchasing gift cards to various places such as sandwich shops and grocery stores, as well as bus tickets, to give out to people we meet. We are not “pushing” the Gospel on them. We are not trying to “buy” them. We are softening up the ground to plant the seed of the Word of God. That gift is an expression of the love of God to them.

I’ve personally started doing this and I find myself saying things like, “God loves you,” as I hand them the gift. There is no rehearsed script. Once, I said, “God loves you and He wants to take care of you.” I had never thought about that in exactly those terms… God’s desire is to “take care” of every person on this planet — all seven billion of them. There is not one single person who is a “waste.” Everyone needs to know that God wants to take care of them. What better way to let a hungry person know that God cares than to give him or her a way to get some food? Or, what is good news to a person trying to make ends meet? … a bus pass so he or she can get to work free for a week.

So, Operation Till The Ground is under way. We have to remember that this is a process. Someone has to till the soil. Someone has to plant the seed. Someone has to water it — but God makes the seed grow. We are doing the first step: preparing the ground to receive the seed of the Word of God by showing people the love of God. After all, that’s what God did for us: For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son…. A gift given in love can soften the hardest heart.
